 02 February 2021 Tuesday’s note

Good NOTE is super important !!!!!

Taking notes

  • Note should be separate

:) Mr. Hall saw good improvement. Avg was 8.8

  • Ultimately He looks for good notes without a rubric. (appropriate note)

  • If you write some assignment for the teacher (you MUST write with good grammar) ex capitalize

<Tips for good note writing>

(Annie)

1. Name and Date at the top; chronological order

2. Both general and detail - need to show good structure but also details that we need to remember

3. Grammatically correct

Three descriptive words to write a good note.

{They should be bullet-pointed.

Organized, detailed, neat, comprehensive,

YOU will need this note-taking skill in the future. Ex college

What are three things that note are mean to be used for.

(Kiper)

  • Sharing with classmates if they miss class.

  • Summarizing important details

  • Proving that We are listening when Mr. Hall is speaking.

The purpose of this assignment = to help prepare students

Example of a good note

Detailed + well-organized (bulet points, underline, color) + good summary +

Wrote down the fact what teacher said in the class (does not matter you agree or not)

(GOAL) = Big picture

TMI = melt down  = no learning.

Growing and mature. There is a fall on the way to success.

=========================Changing subject ======================

Everyone value what we studied in the class

We value honesty, skill… etc

These values are computing each other.  Ex: Academic grade vs honesty

What is the most value able thing? (it is not permanent)

We all have different standards for value (some values are more important than others)

Ex: students value academic grade more than other value

Korean students =getting into college is SO important!!! Different from the American system.

We all have different strengths. Some students good at note-taking, some good at speaking, some good at laundry.

[character sheet]

We need to label the flags.

Aske and add something. Bold it important words (like Yulmae did on Google slides)

Make an improvement until the next class.

Chapter 2 notes

  • The Transition Experience

  • A transition can be keenly anticipated rather than feared.

  • Largest fear = the fact that we do not know what to expect (fear of unknown).

  • Understand what will happen = you will know that your action is normal (particularly in transition).

  • The cycle of Transition

    • Any transition is a cycle.

    • Transition = a process or period in which something undergoes a change and passes from one state, stage, from, or activity to another” Ex: family members are added or lost

       Job is lost

       Marriage or divorce

       Serious illness strikes

  • We saw the transition as stepping stones to maturity.

  • Transitions surround us without our realizing. (part of our life)

  • The five stages of transition as Dr. Pollock outlines them are:

  1. Involvement Stage

  2. Leaving Stage

  3. Transition Stage

  4. Entering Stage

  5. Re-involvement Stage

  • Transitions are never easy.

  • Everyone is different and will pass through each stage in varying degrees.

  • Everyone Goes Through It

    • The 5 stages are not unique to TCKs or international students.

Tip: Every first-year student on campus is making a transition and will       also go through the five stages of the transition cycle.

Tip: Even domestic students may struggle with the adjustment to university, particularly if they are coming from one culturally distinct part of the country to another. With your TCK background, you can help them make the cultural shift.

  • The Five Stages

  1. Involvement

  • “Home”

  • This stage is characterized by a sense of belonging and participation.

  1. Leaving

  • It begins the moment you are aware of an upcoming change.

  • This is a time characterized by a loosening of emotional ties, distancing from others and relinquishing responsibilities.

  1. Transition

  • “Chaos” and “ambiguity”

  • It begins the moment you leave on the place and ends once you decide, consciously or unconsciously, to settle in and truly become a part of your new place.

  1. Entering

  • No longer chaotic

  • Felling marginal and uncertain

  • Looking for mentors and friends

  • Desire to settle in and connect with others.

  1. Re-involvement

  • “Settled again”

  • Feel “Belonging and participation”

  • New “home”

Emotional Response to Stages of Transition

  • How to Have a Positive Experience

    • Researchers found - people who receive cross-cultural training before making an international move have a much smoother adjustment.

    • Expatriates who received cross-cultural training described themselves as having a more positive experience and better adjustment to their new surroundings than those who did not.

Comparison of Emotional Responses to Stages of Transition Before and After Cross-Cultural Training.

  • TCKs are often better equipped to handle transition because they have had to do it so often during their childhoods.

  • If you know what to expect ahead of time, it reduces the stress.

  • The involvement Stage

    • The  first stage of the transition cycle

    • By recognizing this as a starting point, it sets the stage for what changes, how it changes and when it changes.

      • What You Should Know:

  • Life is full of transitions.

  • Ever

  • y first-year student will experience a significant lifestyle change and will go through the five stages of the transition cycle.

  • Understanding what happens in the stages of transition will help in your adjustment process.

Visual Exegesis

“The Encarta Dictionary describes a transition as ‘a process or period in which something undergoes a change and passes from one state, stage, form, or activity to another.’”
