Final Project
Base project: a poster size page which details everything you need to know in order to transition well. This poster could include pictures, maybe a visual exegesis, a poem, a watercolor painting, a crossword puzzle... literally whatever helps you to organize and interact with the things that you have learned which you feel will help you transition well. Your sources of information might be your parents, alumni, your notes, and of course, this book and this class. You may have more sources or less sources. The point is to have a wide spread, varied, personalized guide to transitioning well.
Now, that is the base project. Everyone must do the content of it. However, if your creative little minds come up with other ways to do the project, then go ahead. You may write a song, create a video, write a book, make a pamphlet... or some combination of all of the above. I don't mind if I end up with 21 different ways of interacting with this material and expressing the best ways that you can transition.
If you are doing anything other than a poster, feel free to contact me regarding your choice of expression. If you have questions about the rubric speak to me as well. But please, if possible, don't write me an email. There are plenty of times when we will end class early and you can stay later and talk to me about your ideas.
Simply ensure you follow this basic rubric:
Rubric:
15 pts - Content: I want to hear Tina Quick, Mr. Hall, and other sources. I want to see specific details which you feel will help you, but which come from the content of this course. This is where class notes and a deep reading and interaction with the book will help. Remember the school policy on plagiarism. Direct quotes need to be cited.
5 pts - Personalization: I want to see you and your situation. E.g. If you are transitioning to Korea, I should see a Koreanization of the content.
5 pts - Organization and Synthesis: I don't want to see a poster with splotches of information randomly scattered across the surface. I want to see that you planned out what you were going to communicate and how you were going to help you audience follow your thought.
5 pts - Beauty/Creativity: This will look different for every person, and will depend on what method(s) you use to communicate. However, 5 points means gorgeous, professional quality work. If an 9th grader could do it, it is not good enough. Yes, I can and will make a panel of 9th grade aesthetes (look it up) to judge you. Make it good.
